Today was a pretty laid-back day for me. It was warm, sunny, and very humid. I figured I would stay on the boat today and enjoy the day there. Mom went off with Will into the city. Below is a shot of the port city from the top deck of the ship.

Room Service

As part of my day onboard, I ordered room service for breakfast the night before. Mom let the waiter deliver the meal while I was showering; she was meeting Will for breakfast elsewhere. It was great ...I didn't even have to get dressed up for breakfast. I was greeted by the vision you see on the left. I ordered:

  • poached eggs on toast, corned beef hash, and sausage links.
  • Yogurt
  • toasted bagels with cream cheese
  • Tea and cranberry juice

What a great way to start the day!

I took the opportunity to relax up by the pool again and then I decided I had better get off my butt and burn some calories. I went to the gym that was on board and did some work with the free weights and even managed to jog on the treadmill (only after a couple of attempts, though...it took me a few minutes to figure out what pace was appropriate for me). Afterwards, I soaked in the hot tub for a bit and then went to have a quick shower and change into dry clothing.

Mom and Will got back just as I was leaving the suite to go to the library. She got showered and dressed and we went for tea while she told me about the excursion. I'm glad I stayed on board. Will had my mother climbing half-way up one of the mountains you see in the picture of the city at the top of this page so he could see some pretty purple-flowered tree. Mom came back drenched in sweat, exhausted, and completely red from the heat. She said it was great exercise, but geez...it was hot!

We enjoyed nice sandwiches, pastries, and tea while talking with the ship's activities director about some needlepoint projects she had for us. Yes ...I took one and did needlepoint. It turned out well, too! It's a coin purse/credit card holder. We then played a scrabble game with one of the other guests who really gave us a run for our money!

Tea Time
About 7pm or so, we were heading back out to sea. In order to leave the port, the ship had to do a 180 degree turn in a very narrow area. You can see the maneuver in the pictures below:

Turning
Turning As you can see, there wasn't a lot of room to move. Tug boats helped in the maneuver and there were sailors at the aft (left picture) and bow (right picture) to make sure that there was sufficient room. Below, you can see the port entrance/exit. As we sailed out of the port, the locals gathered at the shore, waving and playing music. It was a fun thing to see. Turning

After a fairly long dinner (2.5 hours) in the restaurant, I went back to the suite to relax and work on my needlepoint project while watching some TV. I also made good use of the alcohol that was delivered to us earlier.
