**Update March 8th, 2004**
I got a letter from Heather today and it seems she's keeping herself
busy! Last year, she had an article on digital rights management
published in Archival Outlook, the newsletter of the Society
of American Archivists. She aslo presented a paper on archives,
copyright, and recent court decisions at the SAA national conference
in LA.
This year, she's giving
a paper at ICA in Vienna and a paper in Boston in August. She's
also team teaching a spring term class on primary sources and
using them in research. Her students are so lucky! I'm sure she'll
be a fantastic teacher.
Heather also has this
marvelous tradition of having small gatherings at her apartment
in Oregon with some fellow archivists/librarians. It sounds like
a very enjoyable time.
In an e-mail where Heather provided me with
this information, she asked:
"Does this make me a FOG - Friend of Glenn?
- This is quite apropos considering I'm in San Francisco - where
you can watch the fog roll in and out on a daily basis."
Thanks, Heather, for this idea. I think it's
great! Welcome to the FOG group. ;-)
Since I've discovered that you lose a lot of
her wit when you paraphrase her, I decided to simply copy and paste
her own words into this section. What follows is what Heather wanted
to share about herself.
I asked her what relevant biographical information
she wanted and she replied:
"I am an archivist. I've got more degrees
than is really healthy - but I'm glad
I have them - a law degree can be quite useful every now and then.
I've studied overseas in Britain twice
and worked in South Africa for six weeks in an archives. I love to travel - part of my roots - serious
cases of wanderlust. I appreciate good
food and good friends. Amateur appreciation of architecture."

My favorite museum in San Francisco, and probably
one of the best Asian art museums in the
Western Hemisphere.

I used to have both this and the BBC bookmarked,
but now that I have the BBC america cable
channel - I'm covered. I like having a broader view on world
events.

OK, I admit it, every now and then I have to
satisfy my inner girlie-girl!
Favorite Books
"Mona
Lisa Overdrive" - William Gibson, completely amazed me
when I first read the series (Neuromancer,
Count Zero, MLO), his ability to anticipate a
future was great, usually authors are too formulaic. MLO is my favorite
because it ties up all of the loose ends with
surprising twists and has a fabulous title.
"The
Daughter of Time" - Josephine Tey - A mystery using archival
sources, what more can I want!
Favorite Videos
"Supercop"
- I love Hong Kong action flicks when I'm looking for an action
movie - this is one of my favorite - two of the best in the genre
- Jackie Chan & Michelle Yeoh.
"Thomas
Crown Affair (1999)" - Stylish, amusing - my choice when
I want to be stylishly amused.
"The
Avengers 65-67" - campy spies, great humor.
"Bringing
Up Baby" - I always enjoy Hepburn & Grant. Great screwball
comedy.
Favorite CDs
Fleetwood Mac "The
Dance"- It has all of my favorite FM cuts on it.
The Police "Message
In a Box"- OK, I couldn't pick a favorite Police album, so
this one has EVERYTHING in it.
Roxy Music "Avalon"-
The smoothest album around, always one of my favorites.
Borodin - Polovitizian
Dances/ Puccini - Nessun Dorma (Turandot) - Best classical pieces to get you going in the morning.
